Possible major cyclone[]
The GFS is showing an intense tropical cyclone in a couple days in the Bay of Bengal. Could this be Maarutha? TG Merry Christmas! 23:37, January 4, 2017 (UTC)

Cyclonic Storm Mora[]
Formed yesterday and it's heading north to Chittagong and India. 198.233.146.2 16:22, May 29, 2017 (UTC)
Severe Cyclonic Storm Mora[]
Well well, it looks like we got our first SCS this year, as it was upgraded into that category. 198.233.146.2 17:09, May 29, 2017 (UTC)
The latest advisories from both agencies bring it to the 60-65 KT range, and then directly move Mora into Bangladesh.... Remember Akash? Looks pretty chilling, anyway. --182.58.124.255 21:50, May 29, 2017 (UTC)
- Mora intensified into a Category 1 in 1-min mean. Getting ready to make landfall already. :)70.190.5.175 01:57, May 30, 2017 (UTC)
Deep Depression Mora[]
Mora made landfall moments before and weakened into a deep depression. It will dissipate soon. :) 70.190.5.175 18:33, May 30, 2017 (UTC)
- Dead. :) 70.190.5.175 00:29, May 31, 2017 (UTC)

Land Depression 02[]
The first system since July. It's over West Bengal and has already claimed three lives. Designated "97B.INVEST". ~ Steve 23:10, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
It was briefly a deep depresion, but it has now weakened back into a depression. Its also stimulating rainfall across India. 182.58.50.222 11:51, October 10, 2017 (UTC)

Located in the Bay of Bengal. Will this be Ockhi? ~ Steve 03:54, October 16, 2017 (UTC)
Now a tropical depression. Anonymous 2.0 (talk) 10:35, October 16, 2017 (UTC)
- Not yet. The IMD isn't issuing any advisories at the moment. All I see is that it's on the tropical weather outlook on the IMD site (click RSMC Bulletin), and marked as 98B. I also saw the page history for "2017 North Indian Ocean cyclone season" on Wikipedia and Iune reverted the addition of so-called "BOB 05". Next time, check IMD for updates as Wikipedia isn't always reliable. ~ Steve 00:47, October 17, 2017 (UTC)
- Code orange (JTWC). ~ Steve 04:21, October 18, 2017 (UTC)
Depression BOB 05[]
Now it's a TD. Not expected to intensify much before landfall. ~ Steve 01:48, October 20, 2017 (UTC)
Remnants of BOB 05[]
Died out two days ago. I don't really care much about that basin. Hi!-68.106.0.77 14:30, October 24, 2017 (UTC)
99B.INVEST[]
Low chance on JTWC. ~ Steve 02:08, October 31, 2017 (UTC)

Remnants of BOB 06[]
And its dead per IMD. Still at medium per JTWC. --182.58.68.237 10:10, November 17, 2017 (UTC)
- Now off JTWC. ~ Steve 06:58, November 18, 2017 (UTC)
07B.OCKHI[]
91B.INVEST[]
Another new Bay of Bengal invest near Sri Lanka, up on Tropical Tidbits. The BOB has been very active at the expense of the Arabian Sea. I wonder when the Arabian Sea will finally get something. ~ Steve 22:40, November 27, 2017 (UTC)
- Medium chance on JTWC. ~ Steve 23:43, November 28, 2017 (UTC)
- High chance and a TCFA. JoeBillyBob (talk) 10:05, November 29, 2017 (UTC)
Depression BOB 07[]
It's a tropical storm in 1-min mean and is forecast to intensify to 90 knots.Hope it doesn't hit Mumbai.JoeBillyBob (talk) 21:29, November 29, 2017 (UTC)
JTWC has declared it the "3rd" system of the year, and it's already a weak TS (35 knots/40 mph) according to them. Forecast to intensify in the Arabian Sea and will hopefully spare Mumbai to the west. Assuming it intensifies to a cyclonic storm, it will be named Ockhi. This system bears watching, for it could become really powerful in the Arabian Sea if it RIs. ~ Steve 21:59, November 29, 2017 (UTC)
Cyclonic Storm Ockhi[]
RI'ing and 60 mph right now(1-min mean) Dunn-Dun. JoeBillyBob (talk) 08:49, November 30, 2017 (UTC)
- According to JTWC (1-min) it's now at 70 mph, which means it's close to becoming a C1-equivalent storm. The official 3-min intensity, according to IMD, is 50 mph/994 mbars. It's forecast to reach 115 kph (70 mph) according to IMD and 90 knots (105 mph) according to JTWC. I think it has potential to get even stronger than that. It's threatening coastline north of Mumbai, so this bears watching, like I said above. ~ Steve 02:23, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
- On the long run, it'll hit India in 4 days time. I hope it doesn't cause that much deaths as some of the cyclones do. Ahem. Hi!-68.106.0.77 02:45, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
Severe Cyclonic Storm Ockhi[]
IMD has called it a SCS. Their intensity is now 60 mph/992 mbars. And I think the most deadly storms in this basin strike Bangladesh and the region around it, not where this cyclone is heading. ~ Steve 06:03, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Ockhi[]
hooray for our first VSCS of the season, according to IMD.Now 80 mph.JoeBillyBob (talk) 12:15, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
- A Gonu-type storm is coming, for Pakistan and India. TG My Birthday 12:16, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
- 90 mph.The forecasts bring it closer and closer to Mumbai... JoeBillyBob (talk) 23:09, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
- Now 100 mph. JoeBillyBob (talk) 07:09, December 2, 2017 (UTC)
- Now it's 110/964. That makes it the strongest NIO storm since... Megh? - Garfield
- That's exactly what Megh's peak intensity was. If it strengthens further than this, which is likely, it will be the strongest storm since Chapala. TG My Birthday 13:31, December 2, 2017 (UTC)
Here we go. 95 kts 3-min. 975 mbar. Ockhi is going to be a very bad storm, as it could slam into Mumbai as an intense storm. TG My Birthday 17:26, December 2, 2017 (UTC)
- Oh, that's such a bad storm coming from them. Hi!-68.106.0.77 18:37, December 2, 2017 (UTC)
- IMD currently only has it up as a VSCS. I saw the wiki page history for the 2017 North Indian Ocean cyclone season and any changes to make it an ESCS were reverted, and IMD doesn't say anything about it weakening back to a VSCS. I don't think it was ever officially an ESCS... Anyway, Mumbai and surrounding regions should be preparing for a potentially devastating cyclone. It could get really bad over there. And it has already, sadly, claimed the lives of at least 30 people while moving through Sri Lanka and southernmost India. ~ Steve 01:03, December 3, 2017 (UTC)
- Down to a Category 1 (SSHWS). Hi!-68.106.0.77 17:30, December 3, 2017 (UTC)
- Now 85 mph/982 mbars according to the IMD. It'll make landfall in or near Surat as a much weaker system. I will take back what I said above about this being a potentially devastating threat, unless it pulls off a 23W. ~ Steve 21:14, December 3, 2017 (UTC)
- Down to a Category 1 (SSHWS). Hi!-68.106.0.77 17:30, December 3, 2017 (UTC)

Severe Cyclonic Storm Ockhi (2nd time)[]
Down to SCS intensity (65 mph/988 mbars according to IMD) as it closes in on landfall in Gujarat. ~ Steve 02:05, December 5, 2017 (UTC)
Deep Depression Ockhi[]
RWd to DD status. --182.58.86.183 14:53, December 5, 2017 (UTC)
Remnants of Ockhi[]
It's now a "well-marked low pressure area" according to IMD. That was a quick dissipation. It didn't even reach land as a TC. ~ Steve 02:24, December 6, 2017 (UTC)
still caused 247 confirmed deaths and 5.07 billion in damages.wow.JoeBillyBob (talk) 09:46, December 23, 2017 (UTC)

93W.INVEST[]
This has recently crossed Malaysia and entered the NIO. JTWC gives it a "medium" chance. ~ Steve 02:24, December 1, 2017 (UTC)
- Down to low chance. Getting a bit doubtful that this will be Sagar. ~ Steve 01:05, December 3, 2017 (UTC)
- Actually I take that back. Models develop this, and IMD says it's very likely to intensify into a depression soon. ~ Steve 02:07, December 5, 2017 (UTC)
- Depression BOB 08
Now a TD but IMD's outlook is not looking so favorable. It will probably only get up to deep depression status (as opposed to something strong, staying weak would be more of a good thing because India seems to be in its path). Maybe there is still a slight chance of it becoming Sagar though. ~ Steve 05:29, December 7, 2017 (UTC)
- Strong wind shear slows its intensification. A teeny chance of this to become Sagar. Hi!-68.106.0.77 00:02, December 8, 2017 (UTC)
Deep Depression BOB 08[]
It reached this intensity earlier. ~ Steve 02:28, December 9, 2017 (UTC)
Depression BOB 08 (2nd time)[]
Back down to depression status according to IMD. Unofficially, JTWC calls it a 45 mph cyclonic storm. It's heading towards Kolkata and shouldn't intensify to be Sagar. ~ Steve 02:28, December 9, 2017 (UTC)
Remnants of BOB 08[]
Has dissipated according to both IMD and JTWC. ~ Steve 05:43, December 10, 2017 (UTC)
