About Me

Hi, and thanks for visiting my userpage. I'm Steve820 (a.k.a. Steve or Steven). I'm 17 years old and I think hurricanes are one of the mightiest storms on Earth. They're very fascinating to look at, especially when they are a monster Category 4 or 5. While most people think they are a spiraling pit of evil that always causes death and destruction everywhere, to me they are an amazing natural occurrence (although I think devastating storms like Katrina are obviously spiraling pits of evil), and along with tornadoes, hurricanes win the boss fight if they competed with all the other weather on planet Earth. The regular storms that just bring rain and snow can never compare to the amazing forces contained in hurricanes and tornadoes. They usually cause lots of death and destruction once they strike land at full force. I live in SoCal where hurricane occurrences simply never happen, but we might sometimes see the remnants of former Pacific hurricanes strike our area. I've been interested in hurricanes for quite a while now, having tracked hurricanes since 2010.

Current Schedule and Status

Note: I am going to be really inactive from December to May 2017, for obvious reasons. I will be back once the Northern Hemisphere is in full force again.

Schedule: School days (most weekdays): 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM (PDT) (non-constant)
Weekends/holidays: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM (PDT) (non-constant)
----

The colors of each status depicts how the background at the right will look like when I am at that status. Words in quotations will not be included at the right column.
Level 5 "INSANELY" Active: Extremely rare rating, and most likely to happen in summertime, winter break, or other school-off times on wikis that I am extremely dedicated and addicted to. I edit every hour of my waking day and can make as much as 1,000 edits a day, possibly even exceeding that amount.
Level 4 "SUPER" Active: A rare rating, and more likely to happen in summertime, winter break, or other school-off times on wikis that I am very dedicated and addicted. I edit every hour of the day any time I am online and, on average, make between 50 and 500 edits a day.
Level 3 "VERY" Active: I edit and comment multiple times a day and actively help everywhere around the wiki. I would also be available most of the time that I don't have school, am on a family trip/vacation, or am sleeping. I am not as addicted and dedicated as Levels 4 and 5 but am still highly active and dedicated. On average, between 20 and 75 edits are made a day when I am at this status.
Level 2 "NORMAL" Active: One of the most common ratings. I edit and comment multiple times every day but I won't be available at all times. This could be because I'm busy on other sites too or some other factor like school events or family issues prevents me from being any above rating. This is only given if I have no plans for retirement or am not losing interest yet. On average, I make between 5 and 20 edits a day at this rating, but might sometimes not edit for about 4-5 days at longest.
Level 1 "SOMEWHAT" Active: Real life events or being on other sites will prevent me from being really active on this wiki, and I would only edit anywhere from just a tad bit more inactive than Level 2 to only about once a week at most inactive. On this scale, I don't really pay attention to the wiki as much as I did when I first joined because of either losing interest or too much stuff going on off-wiki. This could eventually turn into Level 0 or the negative inactive levels if pet peeves to my activity get worse. On average, I make anywhere from 1 edit every two days to 10 edits a day, but I can go for as long as a week without contributing as well as make 30 edits in a day before leaving for several days.
"Level 0" In Danger of Becoming Inactive: I'm starting to lose some interest in this wiki, or off-wiki stuff is really beginning to affect my activity. Don't expect me to be here that often anymore if I have this rating. I have more than a 50% chance of reaching the inactive negative levels. On average, I make between one edit every 5 days to 5 edits a day at this rating. A wikibreak of 11 days at the worst could happen at this rating.
Endangered (Level -1 Inactive): At this rating, I take frequent wikibreaks and can't be that active anymore due to intense loss of interest or way too many things going on off-wiki. I'm now at a higher risk of retiring or leaving for good. I make between one edit every 11 days and a few edits a day on average, but breaks can last as long as 2 and a half weeks. This is the most inactive I can get if real life events and not loss of interest cause the lack of activity.
Doomed (Level -2 Inactive): Wikibreaks can last a month, and I've lost almost all interest in this wiki. Only things that keep me here are the fear of losing my online wiki friends or fun stuff such as the Fun & Games board or other events. On average, I edit every few days to a couple weeks. Any rankings such as rollback or admin can be removed if I'm at this rating or lower.
Retired (Level -3 Inactive): I'm now getting very inactive and will most likely leave for good soon. At this point, I'm basically done with this wiki. My interest is about gone but I will still edit very infrequently, to meet my old friends or take part in any fun things. On average, I edit about one to a few days a month, but breaks can last as long as 3 months.
Almost Gone (Level -4 Inactive): All interest is officially gone. I might still visit this wiki rarely though, and even edit when I want to. It would be really surprising and rare if I edited more than one day a month at this level. I might not even edit for a year before returning, most likely to change the rating to -5 when I do return from such a long absence.
Dead (Level -5 Inactive): I am completely gone and will never edit anymore at all. Extremely low, non-zero chance of returning though (see the below rating titled "Potentially Returning"). Only applies to if my account is closed, blocked indefinitely, or this wiki will never be edited by me anymore. Or even dying IRL, which is unlikely anytime soon.
Wikibreak: I have left for a period of time, and am not currently active on the wiki. This rating only applies if I had a rating of Level 1 "Somewhat" Active or higher. I plan to return soon. This rating could be caused by real-life events, being angry at the wiki and giving myself time to cool down, or the wiki is not currently in an active time for editing (like the hurricanes wiki, where the most active editing period is May through December, and all other months are very inactive). I could still edit during this though, but any edits will be rare until the break is over. This is a bonus rating which does not belong to any level.
Potentially Returning: I was originally qualifying for either Level -3, -4, or even -5, but my interest has returned and there's a high likelihood I will return to active (Level 1+) editing soon. This is a very rare rating.

How I Became Interested in Hurricanes

It all started in 2005 when I heard about Katrina, Rita, and Wilma on the news. I think I heard the news on a TV news station. It was so scary looking at all of the hurricanes' devastation, especially Katrina's! Katrina completely devastated New Orleans. In 2006 and 2007, I didn't hear about any hurricanes, but in 2008, I remember watching the news on Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Again, these hurricanes caused lots of devastation in the U.S. Finally, in 2009, I remember hearing about Typhoon Morakot but I didn't hear about any Atlantic or Pacific hurricanes.

My real interest started in September 2010, when I was looking up natural disasters and hurricanes on Wikipedia. I then found the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season page and saw an active Igor, Julia, and Karl. Shortly afterwards, I found the NHC site, and that's when I started to track hurricanes. At that time, I was only tracking Atlantic cyclones, although by November, I was tracking EPac, WPac, North Indian, and Southern Hemisphere cyclones properly. During the winter of 2010-2011, I tracked a few southern hemisphere cyclones. I also remember the weird and unexpected central Pacific storm in December 2010, and I remember I was very shocked and surprised that an actual TC formed in the CPac during December. Here's the link: Omeka

I continued to track these storms in 2011, remembering the 8 back-to-back tropical storms, the destructive Irene, and all the other storms in the Atlantic. In the Pacific, I remember the weird and unexpected Category 4 November hurricane that took me by surprise (Kenneth) and the large number of major hurricanes. In 2012, I continued to track hurricanes, and I tracked the destructive Isaac and the very devastating Sandy. Sandy was the most devastating hurricane I ever tracked, completely devastating the eastern seaboard and growing to a huge size. Sandy caused massive devastation to the east coast during Halloween time, and literally karate-chopped the east coast to pieces! Also, in 2011 and 2012, I continued to track the other basins (WPac, North Indian, and Southern Hemisphere) as well.

In September 2012, I discovered the Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki. I made an account on that wiki in October, and in the same month I made a crazy 2100 Atlantic hurricane season. Since then I have made lots of other seasons until I retired from that wiki in spring 2015. If you want to see a full list of seasons I made, see my userpage on the Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki. I also discovered the Hurricanes Wiki in October 2012 and read the forums until I finally joined this wiki on July 19, 2013.

I have tracked most of the storms that have formed in 2013. During the year, I have tracked most of the southern hemisphere storms, and the large majority of the storms that formed in the Atlantic, East Pacific, Central Pacific, West Pacific, and the North Indian Ocean. The Atlantic has been very boring in 2013. In the EPac, I tracked the destructive Manuel and all the other storms, and in the WPac, I tracked the devastating and extremely powerful Haiyan (as well as most of the other storms).

In 2014, I continued to track hurricanes and cyclones throughout the whole year, and in 2015, my interest in tracking hurricanes has tumbled a bit but I still track the EPac and Atlantic. The WPac, SHem, and North Indian are not very interesting anymore, and as of 2016, I mostly don't focus on those basins at all anymore.

Signature Archive

Current signature is bolded.

  1. Steven09876 (talk) (Used: October 13, 2012 - July 19, 2013) (This is just the classic, plain signature that I used back when I was only active on the Hypothetical Hurricanes Wiki)
  2. Steven09876 (Talk to Me!!!) (My Edits!) (Used: July 19, 2013 - August 20, 2013) (After I joined the Hurricanes Wiki and up until my 14th birthday, I used this signature)
  3. Steven09876 T |C (Used: August 20, 2013 - October 31, 2013) (After my birthday and up until Halloween came, I used this signature.)
  4. Steven09876 Happy Halloween! (Used: October 31, 2013 - November 1, 2013) (This signature was briefly used during Halloween time)
  5. Steven09876 TalkContribs (Used: November 1, 2013 - December 21, 2013) (After Halloween and until the holidays, this is the signature I used)
  6. Steven09876 Happy Holidays! (Used: December 21, 2013 - December 31, 2013) (My special holiday signature that was used during the holidays and until New Years Eve.)
  7. Steven09876 (Used: January 1, 2014) (A new signature for a new year. This text on this signature looked a bit too dark, so a new signature with lighter text has been introduced (see below). As you can see, this is the shortest lasting signature on record, lasting only a day.)
  8. Steven09876 (Used: January 2, 2014 - February 7, 2014) (The only changes in this signature compared to the previous signature is that the text is lighter in color and that the unnecessary bolding has been removed.)
  9. Steve820 (Used: February 8, 2014 - August 20, 2014) (A new signature for a new username, featuring color changes to red and a new visible border. I hoped to use this for as long as possible, but got tired of it and decided to come up with an even more fancy signature (see below).)
  10. Steve820 |Chat With MeMy Edits (Used: August 20, 2014 - October 30, 2014, November 1, 2014 - March 9, 2015) (Plenty of changes occur with this new sig that was made on my birthday, including doing different colors (instead of all red) and adding "Chat With Me" (linking to my message wall), "My Edits" (obviously linking to my contribs), and the little email icon. I got a bit tired of the above signature so I decided to surprise everyone with a new signature on my birthday.)
  11. --Steve820 |Happy Halloween! (Used: October 30, 2014 - November 1, 2014) (This was used as an awesome Halloween sig during Halloween 2014, it's a modification of the above except that the "Talk to Me" and "My Edits" have been replaced by "Happy" and "Halloween" respectively, and the Email icon has changed to Emoji pictures of a pumpkin and a ghost (but it still links to my email). The colors have also been changed to go with the Halloween spirit. To see this signature correctly it's really recommended you download this extension for Google Chrome (if you use that browser). If you don't have Google Chrome already, it would be great to download it so you can install the extension.
  12. --Steve820 Let's talk.See My Edits (Email me) (Used: March 9, 2015 - September 12, 2015) (This signature makes the text a bit brighter, removes the unnecessary line and explains the icon at the end of the signature (especially for people who don't have the emoji extension installed, make sure you download it to see the email icon correctly!). This also features some changes of the text.)
  13. Steve820 (Wanna Chat?Stalk My Contribs) (Used: September 12, 2015 - October 15, 2015) (It is a little more stylish. Changes include making the border black so the black part can appear bigger, a font change, a couple parentheses were added to enclose my other links, and the "--" was removed at the beginning of my signature because it isn't really necessary.)
  14. Steve820 (Wanna Chat?Stalk My Contribs) (Used: October 15, 2015 - October 29, 2015) (Made all the links turn orange just for Halloween, which is coming up in a few weeks. This signature was used up until October 29, when another signature even more Halloween-ish was introduced.)
  15. Steve820 (Happy Halloween guys!) (Used: October 29, 2015 - November 1, 2015) (For Halloween, this signature was a good idea to design. It represents the holiday in a creative way and this signature just looks unique and awesome.)
  16. Steve820 Talk to me (Used: November 1, 2015 - November 24, 2015, November 29 - December 15, January 11 - June 1, 2016) (I cleaned up my signature a lot so it can take up much less space in the forums and etc. The "contribs" weren't so necessary due how stalker-ish it could be for others to look into my contribs, and the "email" wasn't too necessary either since no one here really emails me anything.)
  17. Steve820 Happy Thanksgiving! (The week of Thanksgiving, November 24 - November 29)
  18. Steve820 Happy Holidays! (During the time around Christmas, and used from December 16 to 30. Technically it won't cover all of Kwanzaa, due to New Years and I have a special signature for New Years. It also didn't cover Hanukkah due to delays, oh well.)
  19. Steve820 2016 has arrived! (December 31 - January 11, it was my special New Year's 2016 sig.)
  20. Steve820 (Used: June 1, 2016 - August 19, 2016) (This one has a simpler design. All the links to user page, message wall, contributions, and email are all in the "Steve820" name. It also uses the "impact" font because I thought that looked cool.)
  21. ~ Steve Chat :DContribsEmail me (Used: August 19, 2016 - present) (My first sig to use buttons. It is easier to understand since the locations to where the buttons go are worded out unlike the previous sig. I also got a little bored of the previous signature.)
